The parcel of land where the Bluemont United Methodist Church stands was transferred by deed June 14, 1851, for the sum of $50.00. The land was designated for the purpose of building a church or house of public worship free from all Christian denominations. However, the Methodist Church immediately began worship when the present building was erected in 1852 and has occupied the building until the present time.

The church was used as a hospital during the Civil War. The building has been maintained in its original state throughout the years with double front entrances, bell tower and galleries. An addition on the back of the building, including Sunday School classrooms and a social hall, was completed in 1976. The current membership totals 122 with an active choir, United Methodist Women's group and many other activities.
